NPL was founded in 2020 to revive the Navajo Transmission Project (NTP). NTP was designed to deliver 1,500 MW of electric power through a 470-mile 500kW EHV AC Transmission Line with several interconnecting substations from Northern New Mexico, across Northern Arizona and terminating within Southern Nevada.
NTP was fully permitted in 2008 but fell short due to challenges tied to another project. Eventually, NTP was abandoned in 2011 and remained dormant until 2019, when NPL advised the Navajo Nation to reconsider restoring NTP under NPL as a private for-profit company.
NPL's partnership with Scale Microgrid Systems (SMS) serves to find innovative solutions to heavily constrained power delivery and restrictive transmission grids affecting tribal businesses and infrastructure.
For many parts of rural Indian Country, the existing power infrastructure is insufficient to protect tribes from rolling blackouts, fire seasons and the high costs of power delivery.
NPL teamed up with SMS to find real, resilient and affordable solutions for tribes across Indian Country.
